Ok the best store in the uk anyway is TSA as they have a large range of snowboards stocking the standard types that most stores have like Burton,K2,Ride etc and other either smaller brands or new brands like Signal, Albin, Farmer etc. The are also the only store to my knowlege ( in the uk) that you can test the boards before you buy which is always a good thing.
I couldent give you an answer to the best brand thing as to be honest there isent one that is head and shoulders above the others, there are lots of good brands and it just comes down to which is your favourite. I don't have a set favourite brand at the moment but a few years back it was Forum as it was the first board that i got a Forum Recon, and also one of the first videos i saw was True Life which to this day is the best snowboard film ive ever seen, the team they had back then was awsome.

Don't go by just brand. There is a ton more to look at then just what companies is on the board. Start with what kind of terrain you ride. Do you like big mountain, park or just cruzen with your friends. Are you a big guy? Size 12 + foot? Looking for powder, carving or both? Everybody on here will say "get a burton I have one ...." that's great and all but just because its the biggest companies doesn't make them the best. Look at McDonald's, Ya they sale the most burgers but if you want a really good juicy burger are you going there? Some good brands to take a look at might be Palmer, Option, Nitro and Atlantis. As for the shops, Go to your local mountain. Don't go to their shop but just the one down the street. Those are the shops that are filled with gear whores like me. Most of all make sure they ask the same questions that I just asked. Make sure the guys (or gals) know what kind of rider you are and what you are looking for out of a board. Each board is different for a reason, know why before you buy. Good luck.

MIKE C is defiantly correct, but some of the bigger brands like Burton, which is a sick Vermont company, has the best warranty I've every seen, my friend broke his Board last year, it a rail real hard, and they didn't even ask how it broke. Now hes getting this years dom. for free, no questions asked.
