In general, we know there are 9 planets in Solar System. However, on August 24, Pluto was not included in the Solar System anymore. Scientists classified Pluto as a dwarf planet. So far, now I think, in the future, they will change the topic and conclude that there are 8 planets in the Solar System. So, the answer is 8. As for now, just answer 9 until they completely confirm this information.

I would answer as the following :
The number of planets in our Solar System used to be 9, however after Pluto was removed (by Astronomers Association)recently, as it was deemed to be a 'Dwarf Planet' , the number is now reduced to 8.
Cheers.

Nine planets. I abide by the older definition of planet. That stated any body of a specific size which orbits a stellar body in a stable orbit is a planet. Since Pluto is larger than Mercury and Mercury clearly retained it's status, it can't be stripped from Pluto either.
In my mind Pluto is more definitely a planet than Mercury because it has a moon.

there are still planets waiting to be discovered that are influenced by the gravity of the sun so we are not sure if there are really 9 or 8 planets. It could even be 17 or 15.

well, before, there are nine planets in our solar system but now, we only have eight planets because of being a very small planet of planet pluto, it is not very viosible so the sientist concluded that they should turn the planet pluto to a minor planet instead of being a major planet...

Well, all the textbooks and science teachers say it's only nine. The tenth through fourteenth are still debatable, so they have not been officially annouced as a part of our solar system.

I would think that tests would accept both answers right now unless you have specifically been taught Pluto is no longer a planet.
In any case, 8 is now the correct answer and would not be marked wrong in any case.
