Dear Doctors,

Currently, I am pregnant for the first time, and am 06 weeks along. I am healthy, but someone advises me to take some medicines below:

- FOLIC ACID, take 1 tablet in the morning

- TURINAL, take 1 tablet and 2 times a day

So, I just wonder, if I really need them? Would there be any side-effect or potential issue?

Thank you,
MTN

Call your dr and ask - only they would know specific to you what you can take and if you need to take them, what is safe for the baby, etc. Don't listen to any answers or take any chances - god forbid it was not ok.

First off, congratulations! Secondly, if you're already taking a prenatal vitamin (my doctor said I could even use the grocery store brand because they have everything you need and aren't expensive like the prescribed ones) you're doing fine. Folic Acid is included in everything from bread to cereal, and is really critical before you become pregnant up to the first two weeks anyhow. I'm not sure about Turinal, but I wouldn't take anything above your normal prenatal vitamin until you discuss it with your ob/gyn. Best wishes and a healthy baby to you!

I've never heard of turinal. I healthy when I got pregnant with my first but my doctor highly suggested prenatal vitamins with folic acid. She said it helped with the grown and development of the baby.

I would say yes to folic acid. It helps the cells to divide in the baby and prevents neural tube defects. When you see the Dr. they will give you a prescription for prenatal vitamins. These have folic acid in them so you don't need to take them plus folic acid. A tip.... if they make you sick, Flintstone vitamins work just as well. Belly rubs to you.

I don't know what turinal is but, Yes, you definitely need Folic Acid.Especially in your first Trimester. This will make sure your baby does not have certain deformities.
