Such a man probably has issues, yes. Most likely, he has latent homosexual tendencies.

I think sometimes it may very well be true that the basher is a closeted case himself. What Fireball brought up though, about a man unsure of his masculinity is another very possible cause. Another reason too may be that the man has a gay person in the family and this is his way of speaking his mind without actually attacking the family member -- or it is a way for him to take the possible "blame" for the family member's orientation away himself. I have often wondered myself why religious people sometimes choose gays as a particular group to bash; why they are so interested in the topic area. Good question JR!

There's obviously some obsession going on when they bash homosexuals over and over with question after question and seem to spend an amazing amount of time in this forum. Common sense tells you there's something going on with these people. Some of it may just be idiocy and jr high type mentality, but I think it's safe to assume that some are obsessed for a very personal reason.

Thats the case some times. Some people raise their kids like that so they grow up bashing gay men. Sad but true! Others are just taught to treat anyone bad that may be different from them.

It's quite likely that homophobes are self-loathing closet homosexuals. There have been studies, in fact, that demonstrate male homophobes are statistically more likely to be sexually aroused by gay erotic images than regular straight men.
Basically, it's called "projection". It's a psychological phenomenon by which a person "projects" a characteristic or instinct perceived by the person as "undesirable" onto another person and then attacks the other person for supposedly possessing said "undesirable" traits. It's a defense mechanism. The person gets to lash out at that which they hate about themselves and yet be protected from the lashing.
It's like..... a girl yelling at her mother for her "stupid ugly embarassing hair" when the girl is having a bad hair day. The homophobes scream and rant about homosexuality and homosexuals when in fact they can't bear to scream and rant at themselves for something they can't accept and/or understand about themselves..

Well no but that does remind me of a funny story.
One day I was looking through my freshman yearbook and was reading what one of my friends wrote to me. In the message he kept bashing on another one of my friends that he kept calling gay. I just had to laugh cause the one who wrote this message came out a couple months ago. Just kinda ironic.

Of course he is.
Think of it this way, I can't stand rap music, but I don't go over and fight with rap lovers. I just stay away from them.
So why else would people bash gays? Because they like being around them even if it is just to say nasty things.

The KKK members hide under their stupid costumes. Man who talk about gays do the opposite, they try and make sure everyone knows how they supposedly feel about homosexuality.
But if it's a constant topic, that shows that they are constantly thinking about it, therefore my answer is; YES!!

research has been done. they linked up a bunch of guys to wires that sensed excitement. then, each guy was shown gay porn. the guys who were the most adamantly and aggressively against homosexuality were the ones who registered the highest levels of excitement.
this was done at least 5 five years ago, i think (at least the particular one i read about). but, i'm sure there is more recent stuff out there.

Sometimes people are just narrow and hateful. Targeting gays all the time, however, does suggest he's got some level of attraction to other men and he's blaming instead of coping.

I am a heterosexual male. I am not afraid to speak my mind.
I am not going to say anything about gays or straights.
I disagree with any human being bashing another.
