the bottles are filled with sweet mixture to attract the flies that lay the eggs that put the worms in the fruit. the fly dies in the bottle and can't infect the fruit.

THE BOTTLES ARE USUALLY CUT OUT TO MAKE IT INTO BIRD FEEDER IN SOME TREES .....BUT IN FRUIT TREES ITS PROBABLY A BEETLE TRAP WITH A MIXTURE INSIDE THAT TRAPS THEM.

people also create their own bird feeders from old plastic bottles and/or cardboard rolls with peanut butter and bird seeds on them. some people are very creative but i'm not one of those people.
