Well, let's see. Now, they talk about getting money, rolling on "24's" (which usually cost more than the damn car they are on, women got to be tricks or hoes, and men(?) have got to be thugs(but I noticed that nobody seemed mentioned the thug menatlity that this music seems to have, especially the women.). Rap music used to be fun (remember "DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince".). Rap used to be about who could go and rock the party the best. It wasn't about being hard or anything like that. It was about life then. It was an escape. They didn't have to curse, fight, kill, or anything like that. I used to do the old school style, and it was clean. I am into christian rap artists now, and this crap that is out there makes very hard for the legitimate Christian artists out there. Now don't get me wrong, I like SOME of what is out there(all clean and uplifting of course), there is really good stuff, but there is also some bad stuff, too, and it is that stuff people will gravitate to, in order to put down the rest of the genre. MTV, VH1, BET and others did not make it mainstream: WE DID, but they did help to give it credibility. I hope DMX does bring himself back from the darkside, because I think he is talented.

Because, when Rap became main-stream and MTV devoted every damned video to the genre..it WAS about money and hoes. The videos would have half-nude women shakin' their ***, even if the video was set in Siberia. Producers and artists started seeing a backlash of youth that took their "messages" seriously and artists started to rap about how live really was.

In fairness I don't listen to much rap but I have friends that do and they turn me on to some of the btter stuff in the genre. But hey people are closed minded and dont wanna listen to anything new. I'm into country and every moron out there loves to rip on it saying it is nothing but people crying because there dog got ran over by a pickup truck the day his girl left him. Ignorance.

Excuse me, but I think He was one of the ones that use to degrade woman too. It's Not a stereotype, That's what rap IS all about! It's such a shame that this is what our society likes to listen too - and it's all garbage - 99.9% pure garbage. Our children listen to it and they grow up all screwed up and yes, they are influenced by the music that they hear. It is a shame when I see little toddlers in the back seat and their parents have rap music playing with profanity, etc. - corrupting their minds at such a tender age. I am saddend by what our society does.

I don't like rap. I don't like it because of the words or anything, ...........it's the sounds and the WAY they say the words. I dislike rap for different reasons than you have listed. I love pretty much any other kind of music. OK, I hate Opera too....lol

It's just a persons preference. And I guess that's why there's so many different types of music out there. :)

That is not a sterotype. I don't listen to rap by choice, but whenever someone pulls up next to me with rap blaring out of the speakers, that is all I hear.
