would need more info; but the first steps would be to check to make sure you get power (i.e. check the important cables like the plug/powerbar); then proceed to check if the BIOS starts (press the function key F2 when it boots to see if that gets you into a 'setup mode') - if you pass those two tests then it is most likely a hard drive error which is usually not recoverable but check inside you system for loose conncetions etc... - finally, see if you can find a boot up disk (i.e. bootidsk.com) and download the win98 bootdisk, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from floppy first (going in via F2 during power on) and try running "cd: c\" "chkdsk /f" from -*NOTE: chkdsk is a latch ditch utility - if you are able to boot to your OS, back up all important files before proceeding as once in awhile it may do more damamge than good.

does it stop on reading the disc or check on ur cd tray to see if the light blines alot that show that the cd is being read if it does you laser might need to be clean go to walmart or any other store to buy a cd laser cleaner
