I don't know much about the law, though, a part of me wishes that I did, because the government thinks that they have the right to riffle through a persons car if they feel like they have just cause. However, I still think that they need a warrant or something to go through your car. So, until that point, you should just say no. Then call a lawyer.
Good luck, though.

A cop either needs consent or a search warrant. If he searches with a warrant and finds nothing their name is mud with the judge he bothered to get the warrant from in the 1st place.

If you do that, the cop will likely arrest you. And, may arguably have legal authority to impound your car to conduct the search.
It's really not a good idea to play games with cops.
{EDIT to CJ} While that is the general standard in many situations, that is not the rule when it comes to automobile searches.

Why don't you just say no?
Being a smart *** is not going to get you anywhere.
You have given consent, if your window gets broken and your car searched what complaint do you have. Wouldn't it make more
sense not to carry something in your car that you don't want
them to find?

they are obviously then going to have good reason to search your car if you lock the keys inside, meaning they will probably tow it to the police station and then break in to the car to complete the search.

just dont give them your consent. they must have reasonable cause to search your car. Just keep any thing out of sight that would give them cause to shearch it. put your drugs in the trunk, dont let your car smell like drugs or alcohol. You will not get arrested for not giving consent to search.

Not worth finding out. Even if it gets dropped because the cop didn't have the right ,it will cost you a lawyer fee

You're stupid!!! Why would you say yes than lock the car? You could be arrested for obstruction. You would look guilty of something and they wouldn't need your permission. Probable cause.

Call you a smart ***, and either tow the car, or slim jim the car to open it back up. Send you the towing bill.

They will be highly suspicious. Nothing worse than a suspicious cop. Break a window? Reasonable cause. For all they know, you could be hiding a dead body and there's an all-points bulletin out for a kidnapping. Please tell me it's only drugs.
