the results come back as "FSH - high - indicates menopause."

In other words, is menopause used after periods have totally stopped or does it mean that I am almost thru having periods?

No.
Menopause have a process wich ends with stop of periods , but starts long time before that.

Most of the times ,at first you might have irregular periods ,or some heavy periods, hot flushing , heart palpitation, urinary discomfort and some mood swingings , skin irritations. And then gradually you will stop having periods.

In some people period stop suddenly and then they will have hot flashes and .... .

It means your almost thru.......Now for the hot flashes, I hate them
