I used to live with a woman...(I'm gay now..this was a long time ago) and she used to surprise me by showing up with train tickets to another (close) city to see a play or dinner or whatever.

InBlackAndWhite,
I'm not a dater. I'm on the shelf, so to speak. So take it how you see it.
I would rather have a date of conversation. So a movie wouldn't be conducive to that UNLESS it was early, say around noon, catch a matinee, and the date would be into discussion on the movie we just saw. We would then go to a coffee shop. I don't like being drunk or drugged. You know, one of those places where you can sit outside and maybe the typical acoustic music that is played there in the background. We would then talk about everything under the sun. Our likes, and dislikes, our big dreams and our inventions that we dreamed up in our minds. I would probably drink hot Chai tea, and chill until about sundown, then go to the beach and watch the sunset.
if I was with a girl, I would perhaps want some close time there. If it were a guy, I would wait until we were back at the house or apartment for some makeout time.
That sounds pretty good to me.

first, don't tell him anything about the date. if he drives, just direct him until you get there. it always makes a date more fun. here's what i would do-
early evening- go to the park. swing on the swings. walk around. seriously swinging on the swings with ur guy is very romantic.
do this for about a half an hour and then either have a surpize picnic in the car (on ice of course) or take him somewhere nice- but where you can eat outside. outdoor dates are more vibrant and so more memorable.
next to a play. something not too romantic but not a trgedy. once again- a play is romantic. moreso than a movie by a looong shot. esepcially because you have to dress for it.
after the play you want to go to a restraunt with a bar for drinks. not a bar or a club. social elements destroy romance. at a restraunt, you're at the bar with other people, but noone is trying to flirt with anyone. you can talk blah blah.
then go right home. have a surpize waiting for him....if you're sexually active make it that kind of surpize. fruit and whipped cream cooling in the fridge, some ki9nky underwear for him to wear. or just a nice romantic candle and rose combo. good luck!

I'm always impressed when men do something outside of the usual. A quiet evening with a great dinner is always the best date for me. I like to know that they took the time to think of the date especially for me. My ideas... Well after work, at your place or maybe his make him his favorite meal, and have an activity like maybe a stroll on the beach or park somewhere you can talk or something. My date actually had a fire and everything set up outside and we just sat in front of it and talked for hours. :) Best of luck.

From the point of view of "enjoying" a date planned by my significant other, I have always enjoyed those "dates" best where the other person clearly thought about what I enjoy most. In other words, instead of two tickets to their favorite concert (I am not big on most contemporary musics - although i am always happy to go WITH my bf - a beautiful dinner ( either at home or at a favorite restaurant ) with a bottle of good wine - means more to me. So you know your bf - what does HE enjoy?

It's kind of hard to come up with a date, with so few details! Have you been going out for very long? Is he a playful kind of guy, or more serious?
Personally, I think it would be a lot of fun if you picked him up, and then went to play putt putt or bowling...something silly and relaxing. Then off to a favorite restaurant of his, then home for a movie....and after movie entertainment! If Or you can cook him a fabulous meal at home, or go out dancing. What ever you come up with, I'm sure he'll appreciate you for all your effort and attention. Have fun!

A lot of good answers here, I would also check into what is happening in your area and see if there are any fest or after dinner take a walk threw the city.
I hope you enjoy your date.

A play is always good. I think movies are way too cliche. You can always find a great play going on in your local theater or college. The tickets are usually very cheap that way too.

I am a big fan of dinner and a movie. Hint: See a movie that has been out a while and sit in the back.
