I think you nailed it in your additional details. We had a "normal" family from all outward appearances. But my brother, for some reason was somewhat deranged. He didn't make his "derangement" obvious, plus he was somewhat of a"favored" son, being the firstborn and a son (big thing in my family). The family was so "outwardly" normal, that is has taken years for me and my sis to come to terms with our own personal issues... it's taken a lot of counseling to realize that in "normal" families, big brothers don't molest, threaten to kill, and violently abuse little sisters, and that many of our own insecurtiy issues go back to those days.
So, yeah, I seriously believe that nuts do not fall very far from their trees.

A person from a "normal" family probably has it too easy. He doesn't have a bunch of issues to work out, so he has all of this extra energy to expend.
I myself have never yet met a "normal" family. Not even in the Christian world. There is always some monkey wrench that throws them into the dysfunctional category.

Perhaps because many of the families are so "normal" that they are utterly boring and predictable. It takes just a little bit of distance for someone in the family to notice this "normality" and, in many cases, to rebel against it. Usually the rebellion is pretty mild--a rebellious child might just read a lot, or perhaps will get a mohawk and wear lots of leathery, spikey clothes. But sometimes you get.... Jeffrey Dahmer....

I think sometimes the families who try to appear the most "normal" to the outside world are really the most abusive underneath and try to cover it with their smiles and participation in school activities.

Normality is safe-but boring, freaks are nurtured from the sheer bordem of normality surrounding them... FREEDOM FOR FREAKS !!! Anyway most of us grow up thinking the way we were brought up is the norm! There's nothing normal about ANYONE!

Why do I feel like you already have you're answer? Sometimes these "freaks" are actually just the result of "normal" genetic changes gone wrong. Unfortunately its actually a "normal" occurrence in nature to have "freaks" I mean, look at a duck billed platypus. A mammal like we are, but "WTF"?

Perhaps the characteristics are genetic, and thus the "normality" of the family is irrelevant.

yeah, you got it,what is normal anyway?some people have babies thinking they are normal and perfect and blah,blah,blah....but everyone has some type of quirk and is crazy in some way or another....so if they look "normal" on the outside...be very afraid because then it is probably some type of mental f*ckedupness.
