ask the pediatrician. it will depend on the baby. usually 4 months old with cereal is the standard. but if the baby is drinking too much, they may have the baby start on small amounts of cereal earlier.

Ask your doctor first, but most recommend cereal at 6 months as a first food.Mix with formula or breast milk.Very thin at first, maybe tablespoonful for breakfast with a bottle.Do that for a week and maybe add a second evening feeding the next week. After that you can start to add the begginers stages of fruits and veggies.Be very careful not to intoduce more than one at a time so you can check for allergies.Your baby may also start to teeth around this age.Toys R Us sells these little feeder bags that are made of tiny holed mesh. You can put a frozen chunk of banana in it and the baby can chew on it,helping teething pain and getting a fruit serving in for the day.its made so the food is almost liquid as it comes thru mesh.No choking hazard.Good luck!

No need for baby food at all - just nurse until they're ready for table food. My kids had nothing but mommy's milk for about 9 months, when they started indicating they wanted what we were eating. Then, I would just mush up what we were eating and let them have some. They never took much; mommy's milk supplied most of the nutrients for well over a year, I'd say.
At 14 and 9, they're healthy - only three total courses of antibiotics between the two of them - and I'd say avoiding all food besides mommy's milk as long as possible is the best way to achieve their level of health.

If I remember right it's between 6 and 9 months and you want to start with cereal, you can always ask your doctor they can advise you best, since they are familiar with your child and it's "growth progress. A cost saver on food is to buy cans of veggies- no salt added- and get a food processor ( I got mine at Wal-Mart for like $10) and chop your food that way, it costs like .39 for a can of carrots and that is at least four or more meals depending on how much the baby is eating.

I started my infant on baby cereal at 5 months. First start with a tablespoon of Rice cereal - mix w/ formula so it is very soupy. Your baby will probably spit it out the first few times, b/c that is their first instinct, but dont give up on him. Then gradually make it thicker and increase the serving size as he gets the hang of eating off a spoon. As soon as you determine there are no food allergies, change it up with some oatmeal cereal, then barley. Then at 6 months you can start with veggies, then fruit. Good luck - it is a messy process!

All major health organizations recommend waiting until 6 months at the earliest to begin solid foods. Beginning earlier than that increases risks of diabetes, GI tract problems, and food allergies.

honestly I have talked to all the nurses blah blah blah about this and well the best answer I heard and agree on and heard the most is okay well if your baby is really hungry doesnt seemed satisfied waking up in the middle of the night to feed u can put cereal in the babys formula/bottel but unless its in that case you really dont want them to start before 6 months because if they eat before then they are more prone to allergies true storie! if your baby feeds and sleeps through the night I would reccomend you to wait until his/her 6 month birthday unless that is the case you really shouldnt start them earlier than that

Your baby would starve if you waited 8-12 months! They reccomend 6 months. I had one son who we started feeding at 4 1/2 months because he was starving and you could tell. When you start it has to be very diluted. They have to learn to eat and have never had anything thick or solid. Talk to your pediatrician and make sure it's best for your child, not that you are just excited to start feeding.

Babies can have infant cereal at 4 - 6 months, and baby food (fruits and veggies) at 6 months. Your baby should be able to hold its head up before given infant cereal. If your baby spits out the cereal when you first try, it may mean they still have the reflex that makes them spit it out. Then you should wait a little longer to try again.
