Being a clinical psychiatrist I have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean from all virus/spyware/malware.
I tested every free and purchase antivirus system known. An I found only one that actually works 100%. Never had a virus or spyware in my system in nine years.
You have children and my professional opinion is that you should consider the one time purchase of this software as it has the state of the art technology to clean the existing trojans and keep your pc clean for life. (All for the one time fee of 29.99).
This antivirus system is used by the the Government of China (Mainland).
Go to, www.filseclab.com and download thier Twister AntiTrojan Virus program. (You will have to pay a small one time fee). You will never have to pay an annual fee for updates, support or new versions. The one time fee is for life.
The software company is located in Beijing, China. They have excellent support, frequent large signature updates an as always all new versions are free. No annual fee for anything.
Comes with a real time scanner that really works. Actually I am quite amazed over the nine years how well it works.
Scans memory on startup.
Real time scanning in the background.
Open any webpage with an embedded trojan/spyware or malware and scanner will clean on the spot. An It is really removed from your system.
Download any kind of program from zips, software files, music, etc, etc, an if there is a hidden embedded trojan, spyware, malware, this program will stop the download and clean. An will advise you to end the download.
Will even find a virus in the installer wizard, like "Wise Installer". And will stop the installation while it is being installed and clean. Plus this program always will trace back who installed the trojan.
I had a trojan in and wizard installer. Twister caught the trojan and stopped the installation. I wrote the origianl company and told them the wizard installer had an embedded trojan to steal your data. The company now uses thier own installer.
You can't beat this software for a one time purchase fee only. Actually I don't know of any antivirus progam that even comes close to this state of the art technology.
All I can say it is worth the one time fee. Your pc cost alot of money and you don't want it destroyed. Plus your privacy is protected at all times.
There is nothing in it for me to praise this program. I tell it like it is. If it is crap then I will say so.
Make sure that all your Microsoft patches are up todate.

What says someone is taking over your computer? First thing, stop using MS Internet Explorer. It is possible that your home page setting has been hijacked and is being directed to an undesirable site. My sister-in-law had this happen, then she would get pop-ups that told her that she was visiting illegal sites and that her information was being forwarded to the FBI, and she could click a link and everything would be cleared up. All a scam. First thing, download the Firefox browser from www.mozilla.org. Then get the AVG free anti-virus program if you don't already have anti-virus software. Also make sure you have all of the security updates from Microsoft. The anti-virus software should find the offending software, but if it doesn't post another question with as much info as you can - what is your OS, when does the problem behavior happen, what messages do you get related to the problem...

hi, trojan is a disgusting and infamous kind of virus, perhaps you can try Norton or Mcafee to remove the virus, but you should pay for the software.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

Spybot-Search And Destroy and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE are the best programs for this. Both are free. I'd recommend u to update both online b4 first scan. Also, scanning in windows safe mode is better option. (press F8 during startup).AVG antivirus is good and free.
You'll get all these in http://www.download.com
(The gross images are bcoz your computer is infected with Adware or Spyware, watever link they provide, don't click on them. Spybot will do the stuff for u)
You'll get spybot from http://www.safer-networking.org too but i listed download.com bcoz it has all the 3 softwares i mentioned.

www.safer-networking.org
downlaod the spybot search and dseetory its free and works great, plus has an immunize button to blaock tons of spyware from getting inside your pc in the first place. Also if you have a bit extra cash, the webroot spysweeper s great as well and they are compatable together, i use them both.

Adware put more stuff on my computer than it removed. Free virus protection is free for a reason. Your best bet is to buy a name-brand(Norton, Macafee,System-suite) and keep it up to date. You might also monitor closely where your kids go on the web.
Check the windows website for Windows Defender Beta

Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw... and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/)...... to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections. All three programs are free.

You need a spyware removal program. I'd suggest Spybot- S&D, has really good reviews.

i wont go into the detail as the best answers have already appeared but, if you find that someone is taking over your computer again and you dont have a firewall on or adequate protection, then DISCONNECT it from the internet first.
