The roof above our 2 back rooms is a flat- top rubber roof. The only way to get out there is to go out the 2nd door in our upstairs bathroom. There's no enclosure out there and it should have a railing. The ins agent said we could do one ourselves with 2x4's.
What's the best pre-treated wood and hardware to use?

The door is right beside the edge of the roof, and in the 5 years we lived here, I've never set foot out there. I'm a chicken $hit.

Home depot or lowes sell premade fence panels. You probably need one that is about 3 feet high and no more than 4 inches between each picket. Attach these to some short (3 foot)pieces of 4 x4 at each corner and evenly spaced between them. You may need a diagonal piece of 1x2 on each panel to keep it from racking (falling over sideways). nail a 2 x4 to the house at each end to attach to. Don'tnail into your roof. Maybe glue a block of 6 x6 under each post to attach to. They make special screws for treated wood.

Cedar log railings last a long time. Pressure treated wood is also very good. Use stainless hardware
