I think it depends on if your talking press/glue on's or acrylic nails.
both can hurt some when they come off. both screw up the nail when they come off.
when you have acryilcs put on they buff your natural nail down so the plastic nail with adhere & stay better.
If you hit the nail on something like a door oe a cabinet handle. It does hurt. kind of like stumping your toe
Also once you get them done, you have to get fills every 2 -3 weeks to keep them looking nice.
my opinion, don't do it. just use the hard as nails lengthener & strengthener polish.
IF you do get them, make sure you use a good salon & that they use sterile brushes & utensils so you don't get a fungus, those take forever to get rid of.

If you have a problem with nail biting, then acrylic nails are just not for you. Besides, super long nails aren't even pretty; many people say that it's trashy looking. (I mean, seriously, do you ever see the hot models in magazines sporting long red nails?). If you want some nail-work done, I would recommend a French manicure, or white tips. They're pretty, simple, and they don't get in your way. French pedicures are totally cute too. And with the nail biting, try to eliminate that habit, because you don't want to have a whole rack of chewed up nails, do you? I thought not.
French manicure is the best bet. SO if you want to go to the nail salon, follow my advice. Believe me, you'll be surprised on how simplicity in the nails is totally the gorgeous way.

If you have the nails applied professionally, as through a nail salon, they should not "pop off". They will grow out and your nails will have to be filled in about every 3 to 4 weeks depending on how fast your nails grow. If by some fluke, one does happen to pop off, it dosn't hurt. However if you apply to fake nails with glue at home, those do pop off, and they do hurt.

ive had acrylics for 5 years im 16 years old, and i bite my nails to bloody bits and pieces. It hurts having a nail pulled or flicked back hard, if they pop off, its becuase the glue dosen't stick. As long as you dont chew, pick, or fuss with them, they will stay on, and your nails grow out. finally after all these years im comitting to wanting nails and ive stopped the chewing. once they grow out, get gel nails!

No it doesn't hurt at all they are just being stupid. If you get the fake nails then you can bite your nails so that would be a plus for you.

Get the gel nails, they do not hurt, and they are easy to take of, When they start to pop of, as you say, you can go and have fill in, or get them taken off,

I would go ahead and get them but you need to let them grow out on their own if you want to get rid of them . also understand that you can get a fungus under fake nails if you have them on so maybe that might help you in making your decision.

it does help you stop biting your nails but taking them off the right way doesnt hurt but if you bite your nail and it splits down the center OW! trust me... thats how i took off all my nails just cuz it was the easiest. but i would get the ones you can buy at walmart or something because they look good and they come off easy! =) but if you want acrilics. go right ahead!

if you bite your nails..often...then jus clean your nails and keep them unpainted..becuz u dont want to be biting off your nail paint along with the nail..therefore no fake nails..you will just ruin a good hour or so of work...and stop biting your nails..
