Depends on how good ur lawyer is......under $500 isn't a felony so ur looking at less then a year in jail/less then a $1,000 fine....

Well, if it is under $500, then you will be looking at some sort of theft charge, but not grand theft, which is a felony.

I say you got yourself into quite a situation. Taking anything that isn't yours is stealing - no matter if it is "little stupid things" or cash. If it isn't yours, hands off.

The polygraph is not admissable in court, so I don't thing that it will be used for anything more than finding out if you stole more than you are saying or not. But I would get that lawyer fast - before the polygraph. It is not something they can make you do, and a lawyer may advise against it. Get one, and let them help you as much as they can.

less than 500.00 should not count as a felony, but each state is different. You don't want a felony charge. If that looks like the case, you better plead just about anything to get the charges dropped.

Say you will do anything, speak at schools about the consequences of stealing, pick up trash, clean bathrooms at nursing homes... Anything!

The best thing you can do is show SINCERE REMORSE and PRAY FOR GRACE AND MERCY.

PS "When your posessions are stolen, they are never, "little, stupid things."

Your remorse might begin by not calling the man's possessions, little and or stupid.

Best to you.

In our jurisdiction, we would charge you with Qualified Theft, but I wouldn't know what they call it in Illinois. The charge usually carries a greater penalty because there is an added element of breach of trust. Since you admitted it, that usually helps to lower your penalty.

For your specific case, however, you have to consult a lawyer practicing in Illinois.

well since you decided not to get an attorney before they questioned you, and agreed to a lie detector test which is not reliable and not even allowed to be used in court

You could just go and lock yoursedlf up in a cell and save them the rest of the trouble of the case.

Get an attorney

Why did you steal to began with? It is totally wrong to steal and what ever happens you deserve. It does not matter how small it is. People trusted you to come into they home and you steal from them. (Not Good at all)

Because this is your first offense, you might get probation...

Whatever it is, you did it to yourself, That is just plain rude, you go into someones place to clean and you steal from them, that is low, I hope someone does the same thing to you, you can't trust anyone, and you are the reason why
