I'm interested in nursing but I don't know how to get started. I have gone online to different nursing colleges and they all say you have to have an RN certificate to take courses to become a nurse. So How do I get an RN certicate. Where do I sign up to take a course to get that????
Please help me get started.

There are several prerequisite classes that have to be taken and successfully passed in order to apply to the RN program. You can go to your local junior college (community college) and take these classes (see a counselor to get a list of all necessary prerequisite classes or obtain a college catalog for a list) - it may take as long as 2 years to complete these classes, depending on the availability of each of these classes. Once you have successfully completed these classes, you are eligible to apply to the RN program. With some colleges, acceptance into the RN program is based on your grades from your prerequisite classes - those students with the highest grades in the prerequisite classes are given first consideration into the RN program, so check with your local community college. The RN program at a junior college is typically a 2-year program, unless you want to continue your education (at a University) and obtain a 4-year degree, which I would recommend. You are then eligible to sit for your RN licensure exam. Best of luck to you.

As an RN I'd have to start by saying there is no way to get a certificate without first going to college. I'm not sure what you mean when you say you have to first get a certificate before going to college. To be an RN you can either get an Associates in Applied Science in Nursing or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. The AAS takes 2 years the BS 4 years (typically). Either degree is acceptable and after completion of the program with passing grades you are eligible to sit for your RN licensure exam (N-CLEX). For a certain amount of time before you take your exam (boards) you can work as an RN with a Temporary Permit.

So-you cannot get your certificate or license without first going to college. Try any of the community colleges near you...they are usually a good place to start. Online courses are available but are better if you are going back to pursue a BSN in Nursing after already being an RN.

Look up nursing schools on the Internet or in the phone book. You have to complete High School or have a GED to apply to a nursing school. Check out your local community colleges. The College of Lake County in IL has a nursing program. You take courses & work in an area hospital and when you have taken the required number of courses, you will get an Associates Degree in Nursing. Most states require you to take a test to become a licensed registered nurse.

You need to attend a college or university with an accredited nursing program. For instance, Columbia University is the best school for nursing in NYC. If you attend classes full time, you will graduate in 4 years. During that time, you will intern at hospitals for a fixed period of time (for training). Then you will qualify to take the test. If you pass the test, you will be certified as a Registered Nurse". I believe that the current salary is around $75,000. Also, there's a shortage of nurses in the U.S.

You can take courses at your local community college toward a degree in nursing. A registered nurse (R.N.) has a four-year college degree and has passed a state exam to become licensed. I recommend you meet with your school's academic advisor to go over your course of studies ASAP. Good luck and God bless. We need more nurses as we are in the midst of a nursing shortage in America.
