I found that if I treated college like a full time job (and yes, that meant getting up at 5:30 am every morning even if I didn't have classes that day) then there was the commitment to not procrastinate and also have free time on my weekends (!) I went to college as an older student, but went from freshman status to graduating in two years -- even with a degree that required extra lab hours in most classes. Graduated summa and even recall finishing a paper three weeks early. For me it worked. You may want to give it a try.

The only time I ever did that was because I believed the essay was due on the day before. So I stayed up till 5 in the morning that day. but I slept easy the next night. So write down the date wrong.

Begin planning the essay the date you receive the assignment, copying all neccessary support articles or research early. A couple of days before its due, flesh out your paper (thesis, 3 main points, conclusion). Once you have this, the paper will write itself. Just follow the formula.

yea the writing the date down wrong helps.
-find a friend who has good study skills, plan a time to get together and work on the paper so you at least get started earlier.
-your friend could also help you buy collecting chunks of the paper at designated times leading up to when its due. think of a good punishment if you don't turn it in on time to your friend
-plan time to go to the library or computer center, you are much more likely to work there where there are less distractions.

I did NOT have to force myself to do it -- because I had to work to make the money to pay the college bills -- so I had to plan to finish my essays BEFORE the due date -- there was NO LAST MINUTE time available for me!

Just make up your mind and do it. It's much better than having to pull an allnighter the day before the paper is due to be turned in.

I always do homework at the last minute. Writing essays isn't usually that bad though, depending on the topic. You just gotta make yourself do it.

The only way that I ever got papers written was at the last minute, and by realizing that if I didn't write the paper I would fail my classes.

Good luck.
