its hooked up to my digital cable box in my living room, the cable goes through the wall and up to the attic, is it possible to cut it up there and send the other wire to an extra room ? would it affect my digital cable in my living room ?

You have to T it off. Don't cut anything. I have this same set-up in my bedroom. You will not receive the Digital chanels from the box, but you will have super basic cable in your room. By the way, Charter did this for me.

You could split it two ways, if you split it before it goes to the cable box, you'll only receive minimal channels because you need the box for anything over 25 and if you split it after the cable box, well then, both tv's will have to watch whatever channel the cable box is on!

Sure you can. You need a signal splitter (available at radio shack or even Target) and the tools to cut the wire and put new connectors on it. Probably $20 for everything.
