I know, it's sad really... I think music as a general has just become a mass-production, quick-cash scam and people are falling for it, head over feet.

So many songs today- songs are stealing entire melody lines and short riffs, lyrics are quickly strung-together and it's all modified to the hell house.

There are still a few out there who produce good lyrics, I personally really like Ben Harper, Norah Jones, etc. but the vast majority are just doing it for the cash.

People don't seem to have the same passion to be musicians as they used to- once upon a time, a person would have to rely on their voice and sheer talent to get ahead, so they appreciated where they got so much more and produced better quality music- nowaday, any old person can record a record, have their voice altered and sell a few c.d's.

The music industry has made it all too easy and people are taking advantage of that fact- just look at how many one-hit-wonders have come and gone in the past 3-years alone... it's a disgrace.

Not to be all encompassing because there are exceptions but most of today's singers are more screamers...bands play so loudly they drown out the lead anyway, so who needs good lyrics. Someone mentioned the eighties but we can go back way farther than that. Gone are the incredibly talented singers and lyricists from the earliest days of music. Patsy Cline, Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves and others in country music.
Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Connie Francis, and so many more in pop and rock, Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald in Jazz and so many others. These people could sing and soothe your nerves with melody and smoothness. They wouldn't touch today's lyrics out of respect for themselves and the industry. Today, if you can't sing good you just sing loud and you can still be a star.

You are so right. People think todays lyrics are "so romantic and so poetic". No. They're not. I think since the 80's, the quality of lyrics (and music in general) has gone way down.

Have you noticed how many people "talk liek dis"? I think that has something to do with listening to mindless [rap] music as well. They think they are "badass", quite frankly, they talk like they have an IQ of 3.

They ran out of good lyrics after all the great Rock and Roll songs of the 70's were written

Cause they don't know what else to come up with? It's always the same things, they just say it in different ways. The songs now a days are really pathetic.

because the people who are writting those lyrics suck... anyone can get into the music business these days... its not talent anymore, its whoever has the money to offer.

That's partly b/c fewer acts we see today are even doing their own writing. Today, we're *voting* for our new "music heros" via American friggin Idol...

Great.
