My eldest daughter is 13, almost 14 and just started 9th grade. I still shop for her from the girls section. When I saw her new friends today, they dress like 20 yr olds! Aren't 13-14yr olds still little girls? I don't want her to get influenced by them and dress like a 20yr old. What is the appropriate age for kids to start shopping from the adults section? I thought it to be around 16-17?

Well, I am 17 and I know that when I was 13 I didn't shop in the kids section but I still dressed age appropriate. Try trendy things that aren't revealing like polo shirts, slightly fitted tees, and cute jeans. Some good stores are American Eagle, Hollister, Aeropostale, and the juniors department at Dillard's. Don't forget that being age appropriate is not just about the clothes though, make sure that she doesn't wear too much make-up. Some gloss, mascara, and concealer for the occasional pimple for a 13 year old is good.

Please don't let your daughter dress like a kinder-ho. I'm so sick of seeing 13 year old girls walking down the street looking like they're 20. That brings a LOT of unwanted attention to young girls and they're too damn young to be flaunting their bodies.

With that said, I don't see a problem shopping in the Juniors department as long as her clothes aren't too tight, too short, or too revealing. My oldest boy has had to start wearing young men's clothing and shoes and he's 10. It all depends on what they can fit into. If your daughter doesn't mind her clothing, and can still wear clothes from the kids section, then go ahead. It's a lot cheaper, and you'll soon have to be forking out a lot more dough for the Juniors clothes. Besides, a lot of clothing makers are making the kids clothes look similar to the adult clothes, so like I said, if she's not worried about it, then you should be either.

I started when I was in grade 6-7, which is 11-12 years. I think that if your daughter fits the kids size then still shop for her there. They still have some really cool things in that section. I still look at the younger kids section. The main reason I switched was because it didn't fit me anymore. but grade nine is kinda pushing it. You can look at teen girl shops. A lot of the stores aren't bad. They just more in style things that fit teens better.

im really tell, so when i was 11, i started shopping from the juniors. i was 5'3", though, and growing a lot. but, just because she starts shopping from the junior secsion, doesnt mean she has 2 dress slutty or like a 20 year old. im 14, and shop in the junior secsion; i think it might be time 2 tell her whats approprite 2 wear in the junior secsion, and whats totally inappropiate 4 14 year olds. when ur 14, u should dress like ur 14, and not try 2 be an age ur not.
Good luck!

You sound like someone who has good judgement. Still here is a bit for you to think on while pondering your own question.
Do you think its okay for your daughter to dress as a child? I mean look at the Britney Spears Videos, and all the child like dresses they wear. You chould coach your daughter to dress appropriate for her ahe and her body. You dont want her in bobby socks and knee skirts, and neither do you want her to look like 13 year old hooker either.
It seems as though girls are maturing rapidly in this day and age at least in their bodies but not so much in their minds; however we have scociety, our laws and simpleminded parents who dont take the time to raise their children muchless care for them.
I take it this is not the case with you.
However a 13 or 14 year old girl is not a child and is most certainly not a little girl. She is a young lady and should be treated as such. To treat her as you would my five year old would be to disable her, and as well to treat her as she is an adult would be to cause her to grow up too fast.

It depends on what the clothes are! They can shop in the adult section and still by decent clothes so i say around 14-15 or when ever they can fit it! It all depends on WHAT they buy from there!! :)

Hey i am an adult and i fit 14-16year old cloths, does that make me a kid NO its all on WHAT you buy and vice versa!

that would be the ideal age but unfortunatly my 14 yr old daughter can not shop in the girls section anymore because her breasts are larger than mine. Anyway, you are the mom and you lay down the law of how she dresses. even in the adult section i tell my child what is and is not appropreate to wear

About 14...

but, if you dont like them dressing like 20 year olds, buy her clothing from the adult section that is suitable for her age. You dont have to buy her "older" type of clothing. They have a huge selection of clothes...

She might desire to have the potential to shop in th junior section like from Dillard's, Nordstorm, Macy's, Jcpenny's, Bloomingdales, & so on. another super shops for her is Wetseal, American Eagle, Abercrombie or Abercrombie teenagers, Hollister, & Delia's. i think of she's @ the perfect age for that. i've got been donning juniors close because of the fact that i became like in basic terms approximately thirteen.
