Somebody who is constantly criticizing and putting down employees, rather than trying to motivate them to do well.

Micro-managers and ones who want to play political games. I had a boss that used to always line me up against this other employee; the other employee and I didn't see eye to eye on things to begin with, and the manager really encouraged me to take a stand against him. But when we got to meetings and had to "debate" our points, the manager always left me hanging out there by myself. She'd sit in the meeting and not say a word. No support, no backup.

Managers who apply different standards to different people or don't enforce the rules suck, too. I had a boss (same job, I just had like 100 bosses there) that would never fire anyone, no matter how bad they needed it. People would lie on their timesheets, ignore our customers (we were in tech support), wander off for 3-hour lunches, and no one ever got in trouble for it. That really killed morale for those of us who actually didn't mind doing our jobs.

And bosses who don't know what they are doing suck too. (It's so sad that I have like 9 examples of bad bosses from one single job!) I had one boss who was supposed to be a technical manager but she could barely log into her computer without help. She made us do all of her project plans and proposals and would just erase our names when she submitted them, and she would tell the clients all this stuff that we could do for them when technically it wasn't possible, then get nasty when we explained that our software just didn't do what she said it would.

One who provides no direction or support, who is usually in a nasty mood to those below him, who loves offices politics and who take credit for things his team does well & is quick to blame team members when things go wrong/badly.

Has no budget for his team but has plenty for himself. Goes on exotic business trips & brags about them when he comes back in the office. Backstabs staffers in a heartbeat. Usually has a loud, obnoxious laugh at company business meetings & Christmas parties. *** kisser to the max.

Ha. I had two....hands all over me, wouldn't leave me alone. Telling nasty jokes all the time, being crude and using threats of firing me to get what they wanted (sex). Horrible.
