By telling her. Simply put! But make sure to stay true to yourself & you do owe her an explanation. Bottom line is when you deem someone a "best friend" (not just an acquaintance or 'friend') then you more than likely have solid, relevant reasons for cutting her off. If it's petty than give yourself time apart & time to cool off. What's great about "best friends" is that the longer they hold their title the more they become an extension of your family. Which means you should be able to agree to disagree... learn to pick your fights... bump heads... get over it... & move on.

I'm almost certain that you are significantly younger than I am & therefore think that "best friends" are dispensable... you'll have to wait to be A LOT older to fully understand the importance of "GIRL Bestfriends". Good Luck hun.

if you truely feel that you dont want to be this persons friend any more but you want to let them know in a nice way just tell your friend that you two don't have very much in common and you don't have fun with them anymore if they take it the wrong way its because they had no idea what is going on or why but remember you told them nicely when you could have been rude.

Well sometimes you have to be mean to be kind..Tell her the truth why you don't want to be her friend. No matter what reason you have it's better then keeping her around and getting more attached sometimes things end for a reason and she may be hurt for a while but she'll move on as you did..

You don't have to tell her anything. Just ignore when she calls and don't go out with her and she'll get the message. I made that suggestion because if you tell her, she'll stop talking to you and in this life you really don't want to burn your bridges unless you really have to. Do it in a way that you can still say hi to her on the street but that's as far as it goes.

Well I guess they aren't really your best friend, now are they? I'd hate to see how you treat the 2nd best friend. Anyway, you didn't say why, so that would be necessary for someone to give you an actual legitimate answer, if that's what you are actually looking for.

Do you really need to have the talk? Is there any way you can just be "busier?" Are you SURE you want to break off this friendship? If so then... you could have that talk and just state it and sum it up why and then move on.

You can do the chicken thing and just not call them anymore!!! That usually works. I'm sure she would get the idea.

Just be busy whenever he or she calls. Make excuses until he catches on. If he asks, say you have to move on.
