Ferrets are obligate carnivores meaning they can only eat meat, they have very short digestive tracts and no cecum which means that they are not able to digest anything more fiberous then meat, so when theyy eat veggies, hay, grass etc. they can not digest it and whatever does not come out the other end undigested is getting stuck inside somewhere which if fed long enough can cause blockages. They can digest tuna but any type of fish is going to make them more odorus. For treats small amounts of turkey or other meats are fine but it is best to stick with ferret treats.

I love ferrets and have one!
Snacks are good for ferrets… Ferrets don't need snacks, but owners sometimes need to feel good about themselves by giving their pet a treat. A treat can also be a useful training aid, and may some day make the difference between searching for hours for a sleeping ferret, and having the ferret immediately wake up and come to you when you shake the treat can or box.

Snacks can be bad for ferrets… Nutritional problems arise when owners give ferrets the wrong kinds of food as treats. Overfeeding sugary snacks can cause health problems, including obesity, tooth decay, and aggravation of hypoglycemia caused by insulinomas. Remember that some fruits such as raisins, a favorite treat for many ferrets, contain large amounts of sugar. Dairy products, although very palatable to ferrets and nutritionally beneficial, cause diarrhea that can be distressing to the owner. Ferrets may become so passionately fond of certain flavors that they won't eat anything else. Most snack foods are not well balanced. Overindulgence produces malnutrition and obesity.

Good Snacks in Limited Quantities
• Commercially packaged meat-based cat or ferret treats, especially liver flavor
• Cooked eggs

• Cooked meat
• Freeze-dried muscle or organ meats, available as commercial treats
• Linoleic acid coat conditioners (e.g.; Linatone, Drs. Foster & Smith Vitacoat, Ferretone, a few drops daily)
Snacks to Avoid
• Marshmallows
• Potato chips
• Peanut butter
• Ice cream
• Soft drinks (sodas)
The key ingredients in any food for ferrets are fat and protein, specifically animal protein, since ferrets' short digestive cycles prevent them from getting enough nutrition from vegetable proteins. Chicken, turkey, beef, and lamb are all fine; most ferrets don't like fish, and it may make their litter pan smell worse. The food needs to have 30-35% protein and 15-20% fat, and animal protein should be the first ingredient and at least two or three of the next few.
Unless your ferret is overweight, you should just keep her bowl full and let her eat as much as she wants

I personally feed mine this Ferret Diet that has all the nutrietion it needs........i get it at the petco, ask your vet( assuiming that you do take yours to your vet)and see what he/she thinks......

hope that was of some help toyou

Meat is the best people food for them. Certain fruits are good, but only in moderation. Same with COOKED vegitables. Raw veggies could get lodged inside them. Do not feed them nuts or sweets. Some tend to like Raisins, but no more than 1 or 2 a day. All fuzzies have different tastes though. Like I said, meat is best for them. Mainly poultry and beef. They can eat raw meat or cooked. You can feed them the meat with bones and all, there are lots of nutrients like calcium in the bones for them. You might wanna keep an eye on them the first few times you feed them bones though, so they dont choke, but as far as I know there has never been any problems reported ragarding this. But you dont really wanna completly rule out ferret kibble. And if this is already what they eat, them you need to slowly change there diet so they can get used to the new stuff with out starving. Ferret kibble should be high in fat and protein. Avoid kibble that the first ingredient is anything with corn in the name.

Ferrets are true carnivores. They must have a very high protein meat based diet. ONLY use treats made for ferrets. They simply cannot digest fiber, so giving them vegies and fruits will usually cause diarrhea. Sugar is also no good. They are prone to insulin problems. A high protein, premium kitten food can be given a couple of pieces a day as a treat. Stay away from cereals as well (too much fiber). Your ferret will stay healthier longer if you follow these guidelines.

Its not a very good idea to give a ferret any kind of fruits or vegetables. Their body's can't handle it very well. They have a hard time digesting the foods through their systems. Ferrets should be introduced to many kind of snacks and meats while they are young, because when they get older they will be less likely they will try it. Tjey tend to become more pickier as they get older. Pet stores and your Vet can sell you some safe and healthy treats for your pet. Junk food that we eat in moderation is ok, but not suggested.

we are longtime ferret vendors and we would advise feeding intense-high quality ferret nutrients in user-friendly terms. We use terrific by making use of 8-in-a million yet there are different good ingredients available. We complement the terrific with FerretVite (a diet, mineral and sugar based handle that ferrets are loopy approximately.) it is likewise aptly widely used as Ferret Crack. yet use it in user-friendly terms as a handle and complement, it is not another choice to surprising-grade nutrients.

It sounds like you are a new ferret owner. The best ferret book on the market is FERRETS FOR DUMMIES. It gives full detail regarding diet, care, and even health issues. It is the ONLY book that even talks about enrichment...something that is vital to a ferrets mental well-being. I keep this book on hand myself and have found it to be an indispensable tool when I first started with my little guys. Also try to locate a ferret rescue in your area. They will be more than happy to help you with your 'fuzzies'.
