I can understand smaller colleges not customizing the jerseys for $ reasons, but why do big schools like Nortre Dame and USC not have names on their jerseys?
AND SIDE QUESTION: What school is Cal? I don't know college football so that's very vauge to me (there's U Southern Cal, or U Cal Los Angelas---but just Cal?)

I know about the UC system, I go to a UC school (UCSD) and I know USC, I was using it as an example. It's just weird that they don't call it Berkely, or just say Cal Berkley everytime, because there's so many California schools with California in the name.
I don't really see how abscence of names would help the players with teamwork, if anything I think it would help the fans (not attaching onto one player, but liking the team). But I agree with the person who said that it's not good for people watching who don't know all the players (and to people who'd say that you should like the whole team ----it's opinion. Some people don't single out certain players, others do. (Plus you might not be a fan of the team, but want to watch the game)

Some college programs feel that football is a team sport and shouldn't promote individualism.

Teams do it to stress teamwork, and downplay individualism. Last year, or the year before, I remember the Texas A&M coach taking the names off the jerseys until they started playing as a team again...
Cal is the University of Cailfornia at Berkeley. The Berkeley is added because there's many University of Californias that are subdivided on different campuses. Berkeley is the biggest one, but there must be another one close to it in size for them to use the "at Berkeley" all the time.

Oklahoma has a huge program and they do not place the names on jerseys, trust me there is some money in OU's program.
I hate it, it is hard to determine who is making plays when dealing with lesser known players.

College teams are supposed to be more team oriented. No player gets "paid" so it makes no difference if their name is as known as in the pros.
I believe Cal is the Univerisity of California. Aren't they the Golden Bears?

MAYBE its a liscensing issue or the NCAA trying to keep it amatear.
BTW UC Berkely's abrievation is CAL
USC is a private school: they are also known as southern cal
UCLA is another school in uc system. CAL is known as such becuase its the oldest public university in the state I think.
The University of Southern California (USC) is a private school like Stanford.
ALSO, while there is a california state university (CSU) system - seprate from the UC system. There is no one school known as "California State." it is more common to name csu schools after their location. AKA San Diego State or SJ State (though students there want their school to be renamed CA State becuase they were the 2nd oldest university in the state and oldest csu).
The only D I schools in CA for football are:
San Diego State (CSU), U.C.L.A, USC (private), CAL Berekley, Stanford (Private), U.C. Davis (Div I-AA), Cal Poly (Div. 1-AA; CSU), SJSU (CSU), Fresno State (CSU).

What happens when the Judge takes the Bench?
At some point the Judge finally emerges from some back room whereupon he will offer his Opening Remarks. You are asked to "rise" and it is announced that Court is in session. The Judge graciously allows you to sit back down and, in general, will advise you of the following:
"You have certain rights in Court, i.e.
