Painting the garage..?

I just moved in and I think my garage door is aluminimun and it does have existing paint that looks matte.
Can I paint on top of it, and what kind of paint should it be?
It's now red, and I want it to be white.

AND OF COURSE REMEMBER TO COVER ANY AREAS YOU DON'T WANT THE PAINT TO GET WITH OLD NEWSPAPER HELD IN PLACE WITH MASKING TAPE AS OVERSPRAY HAS A HABIT OF FINDING THOSE AREAS.
