I just bought a new one garage townhome, our neighbor has two cars just like we do, however they like to park one on the driveway and their SUV (expedition) on the sidewalk. It's not a problem to us, since it doesn't affect us in anyway, but since their car is so big, 1/3 of their car is in front of our lawn (they can back it up towards their own house without blocking anyone). I think it's a bit unrespectful and inconsiderate. But how do I address that to them, since I don't see them at all, and be polite about it? Or should I not worry about it at all?

Being non confrontational with neighbors will go a long way considering you may live next to these people for 20 years. Worse case scenario, you say something, no matter how kind and polite you are, and they get a grudge thing going. That can lead to so many problems. If I were you, if it is not obstructing anything you are doing, you might just hang on a bit and see if they move it back a bit. Maybe it has not stuck them yet? If you get an opportunity to say something, make sure it is well after you know what kind of temperment these people have, to be on the safe side.

Hope that helps.

If it's causing you a problem and bothers you that it is in front of your lawn, maybe you could go over and say, " I would like to mow the lawn. Your car is in front of my lawn and I really don't want to get grass on it or anything else. Would you mind moving it out from in front of my lawn?" Sometimes people just don't think. They are oblivious to others and the fact that they may be inconveniencing someone else.

I would plant some flowers one day while the car is not there, and hope that they get back before dark. If they are creepy or odd in any way I would do that so I wouldn't have to approach them.

If they are nice, maybe they will be understanding about it. You could talk to them about how they park it, or what times are okay. It's your property, not their driveway.

first check the association rules as not one allows parking on the sidewalks. your property is yours and they shouldn't be parking on it. just moving in could cause problems as neighbors. put up those small metal or plastic fences used for borders about 6 inches high or so on your end property and sidewalk lawn area. it will let them know not to park there and if they run over it, just politly ask them to buy new ones. they are cheap at home depot.

I thought of the same thing when my neighbors parked their vehicles in front of our house. They were a bit unrespectful and incosiderate. It was so irritating. I never got the chance to talk to them, I put up a signboard telling them not to park in that specific area.... It was effective. They did not park their vehicle in front of my house. However, I never came to being close with them. We changed residence.

You ought to find way to address the issue personally and be tactful and respectful in pointing to them that they are doing you injustice that way.

Tell them that you want to plant some flowers by your driveway and ask them if they could back their car up so that you can. Or you could just be honest and ask them if they would mind not parking on your lawn.

I don't know what the bylaws are like in your city...but where I live, it's illegal to park on the sidewalk.

If you want to avoid a confrontation with your neighbour, why not just call the bylaw enforcement office anonymously? They'll send someone out to check on it.

A ticket or two will probably convince them not to park there.

Good luck.

Strew the place with iron filings or some sharp metal, piece of glasses, that would damage the car tyres. This would surely prevent them from parking the car.

If they're NOT in your way, I'd let it go, ok? Why start a turff war over something trivial?

However, You could always park your "extra" car right where they need to be so every time they drive their SUV its difficult.

Most people don't need an SUV, and personally I'd like to see a 2500 dollar tax per vehicle PER YEAR if you can't prove you don't need one

Go over knock on the door. They are being very unconsiderate of your feeling by parking the car like that. Dont worry about offending them. If you feel uncomfortable going over and knocking on the door. then make a phone call and tell them how you feel. One way or another you really need to get this off your chest. Good Luck..................
