The absence of something?
The number zero is just an arbitrary starting point, from which you can go forward (positive numbers) or backwards (negative numbers).
However, when you apply this to real world situations, what nothing means kind of depends on the context.

Depend on how you ask this.
Philosophically, Nothing can be something
Logically, just nothing
Taoist philosophy, nothing means everything, the emptiness clears for everything to be present
Legally, not guilty
My own answer, how do you want the answer to be?

Well nothing can be lots of things from different point of views.
Nothing is 0 nil nothing or it can be something that somebody thinks is rubbish. I mean think "one mans nothing is another mans treasure"!

It is a word, a series of letters, in the English language used to represent the absence of SOMEthing, ANYthing, EVERYthing- because there is no THING present.
