I usually get my ideas from blathering. My friend and I will be hanging around, and he'll ask a question such as "Why don't you ever see people from the video store any where else in town?" I took that question and ran with it into a story about video rental store employees who sleep in empty DVD cases when the store is closed.

Other ideas:
What do clams and oysters talk about?

What would happen if all the birds in the world spontaneously exploded?

Would a dog make a good politician? He sits and speaks on command.

Well, I'm not generally one for short stories, but modify these ideas a little and it should fit:
What if the greek/roman/egyptian/norse gods and goddesses were real and they lived in present times as normal teenagers?
Take all the drama from your own life and mix it up a little with some fantasy elements. Example: For her sixteenth birthday, instead of a car, your best friends parents got her a dragon!
Sorry, but I'm only good at coming up with story ideas about fantasy!

Boy meets girl. Boy loses girl. Boy gets girl back. Write your story around that, that is the story all the big movie producers use.

Just watch people, at the mall, the park or at any public event. You'll get plenty of ideas and some great characters to boot.

Type Elmer McCurdy into google.

If he don't float your boat try reading about Juan Flaco, California's Paul Revere.

i'm also an aspiring writer, and i've started lot of stories, though i havent' finished many of them yet.

based on experience (lol!) i can say that the most beautiful stories are love stories... love of a girl to her best guy friend, of a guy student to his young teacher, of a poor girl to a rich boy... you name it.

you may think it's corny, but let's admit it, we all love love stories.
