Grown-ups who are insecure and fear others being equal to them use the word innocence as an idea of childhood being the better part of life.
They think that if they idealize childhood being innocent then others will agree that children should not grow up (too quickly).
They think that kids should stay kids (or else they might take over when they grow up too soon) As long as kids have no power, they think they have control of the situation.
You've got a mind. That is a lot of power. Use it wisely.

Becoming an adult usually. Becoming aware of your intentions and making deep conscious thought about your actions before you do them instead of walking around in ignorance or Innocence.

usually an event in childhood that makes you grow up. often it is the death of a loved one or another dramatic event. For many children it is also the point where they stop believing in Santa and the tooth fairy and such.
