Well first I wouldn't rule out Goodwill. To paraphrase, one person's trash is another's treasure.
You could also try http://www.freecycle.org/ . There you can find information on how to give stuff away to people who want exactly what you have (and vice versa). There are links to local groups. I'm a member of a local group, and have offered stuff of my own... though that doesn't guarantee there will be any takers.
I agree with you about not wanting to throw usable stuff in the dumpster. That's the philosophy of the Freecycle groups, too.
Of course, there's always ebay, too. Who knows; you may sell something. I realize it's not the money you want, but you may get rid of some stuff that way.
Good luck.

If you're in an area where there are a lot of college students, etc. put a note up at your supermarket, etc. Someone will probably want it if it's free - even it if it's not in good shape.
If you have a church or other organization in your area that helps people (i.e. just arrived in the country or experienced a natural disaster) they may know someone that can use it and that will just be happy to have the items regardless of the outward appearance.

We live in an apartment complex. Often people put items they don't want anymore in a box(es) and set them beside or behind the dumpster, and the people who need those items are happy to have them

Goodwill or Salvation Army. There are people that have nothing and would be glad if you donate your stuff that you don't want anymore.Don't throw it out as there is needy families that would appreciate it.Even if you put it out at you curbside, when you wake up the stuff will be gone.Hope this helps.

Put it out on your street curb and have a sign that says free. I bet it isn`t there by morning. Put it out at night that way you can`t see your neighbors sneaking by to take the cookware and etas. Good Luck to you!
