Ok, let us say that the guys name is JOHN. So, john used to be a man filled with greed for money.
So "WHY" would he then later commit himself, leaving behind his greed--or rather, suppressing it--and become a Reverend?? He tells himself: "I am saved, I am a born again Christian" but we all know that inside him is still that greed for money which is prioritized over Christ.
Then this leads to the biggest question, then "WHAT" would cause him to later break out from his mask of being a Holy and righteous man and back to his own self of the man lusting for money?? What leads him away from God's path in order to persue money--through crime??
To win 10 points, answer the two questions above. Here's the summary:
1)What leads the man from being a money-greedy man to becoming a man of God (appearance-wise)
2) then what is it that tempts him away from that path.

The thing that leads the man from being money hungry to becoming a man of God could be the fact that he feels guilty about being obsessed with money. He must have had some religious upbringing in his past because "the love of money being the root of all evil" seems to weigh heavily on his mind. He feels that if he becomes a minister he will be doing something positive for himself and the community. He might have thought that this would also be an easy and tax-free way to make money with the collection plate, bazaars, bake sales, etc. He still wasn't completely removed from money and the money being taken in wasn't enough to meet his needs. If he was only focusing on the money and not the love of God and others, then he could be tempted to stray from his "calling" and slip back into his old life, a term called "backsliding". It meant his conversion wasn't genuine.

This is very simple, But not a simple question, For John did seem to want to do the right thing although, he knew his own greed was within him at all times. Through the grace of God can one change and nothing more, so he did try to change. But because his Greed was so great and God is so perfect and knows all, then God knew that John was not going to change as did John know this as well. Because he could not give up what he needed to give up most and this was his desire for money. God backed away from John. Letting John make his choice to follow him or take the Money. What causes John to faulter was the fact that he was not fully committed to changing in the first place and God knew this also. So satan won in the fact that he gave John money and John didn't see that he was being used by satan. So John was not ready to give up hid Money, Although he did mean well. It tells us in the Bible to leave things of the world behind and take up the cross. Maybe John was decieved by satan, it also tells us that satan come to decieve, destroy, and kill. While John meant well and probally did want to do the right thing.satan had a stronger hold over John. But if God so wanted to then John would have put the Money down and walked with God. Maybe God wants John to learn a few lessons about greed and then God will allow him to try again. God is a God of many chances. Then when John comes to him again, it will be for the best.

Nothing in life is ever what you think it will be. You think that by achieving success it will fill the need for security, self satisfaction, etc. You get disillusioned when you find that it is not how you thought it would be. You try something else that you think will fulfill your needs, but it is not what you had hoped either. You then realize that everything is not what it appears and there is no perfect thing so you go back to what you are most comfortable with or what ever has the biggest payoff for your personal preferences. Or you don't realize this and just keep trying new ways.
If it were the other way around he went from preacher to greed and back it would still be the same.
I guess it comes down to expectations and reality. Some know that nothing is really perfect or easy except it and deal, while others keep looking for for their expectation of how they think things should be.

You pretty much described my uncle. He didn't know God until he married but before then he was greedy-not even give one stinkin' dime to grandma-and then he tired to change because it almost destroyed the family ties, he was doing good until there was some land available from our property and my aunts and uncle were suppose to share the value of it. Well, the jerk without any one's permission gave permission to sell the land and he took every stinking penny-and he doesn't even need it-he goes to church-preaches about how he has changed-bull shiit! It's an act that I feel is put on-so people will think "wow he really did accept Christ"-just so people won't gossip behind his back about how he claims God changed him-yet nothing is happening. The pastor actually bought into his lil'act-but not for long, and even he found out how conniving and greedy he was to sale the land without even asking for permission from the rest of the family, then how he took the money from the property-all of it-when my aunt really needs it-and isn't willing to share it with anyone. Now, my family is split again and the pastor can't believe someone who so much loves God and claimed to have accepted his bliss would do such a thing-hypocrite-it's because all in all he hasn't changed-it was just an act to make people believe he is a good Samaritan and to make others talk and say "more should be like him"-not after they find out that's just a bunch of bullshiit and an act-he may fool some right now-but slowly and surely everyone will discover his true dirty and filthy character. The funny part is that he feels he is the one who should be pissed at them for trying to talk to the pastor about our family problems-but that is what is there for-to help guide us in the right direction. I know the only reason he didn't want this situation to leak out was just to save his fcuking as s-he's reputation-because now the pastor has seen he's true colors and I know won't believe whatever shiit he tries to defend himself with. He is greedy-cant do without money-he is obsessed with materialist crap and without the money how the hell are you going to get your hands on it? You know when the flesh tempts the soul it's a battle between good and evil and only the true believers will win the challenge-and he could of-if he really had good intentions.-he is just a pretentious bastard who thinks he has everyone fooled-but not for long :)

Well most people want to find a meaning or purpose to their lives. Wanting as much money as possible and material possessions is a purpose, you do what ever you can to gain money. Maybe one day they sat down and analyzed the situation they were in and found they did not believe they were truly happy. Most people preach that they found happiness when they turned to God. This was a new meaning and purpose to try on. After a while of becoming a reverend they found that this was not doing it for them either. The person did not want to invest any more effort into another meaning or purpose to try on so they turned back to what they already knew and found comforting.

If being "money greedy" and being "a man of god were exclusive of each other, there would be very few Christians. They aren't though. One doesn't really have anything to do with the other.
Faith is a personal thing.
For many people who have been caught doing criminal things, got is their next step. Society treats them better when they "find god". Unfortunately, in these instances at least, finding god is a crutch.
Alcoholics, and other drug addicts have the same problem. They find god to help them be stronger than their addiction and they dive in full force. The problem is, this doesn't work.
Your friend was trying to be something he wasn't. He was lying to you and more importantly he was lying to himself.
The answer to your questions is:
1) Society leads him to god.
2) Human nature and his need to be himself lead him back.

1. "John" may have genuinely wanted to steer away form his greed, so he used the "finding God" excuse as his outlet. Finding God is a credible excuse and it was something he could tell himself and eventually believe in. Except you cannot claim to have found God and then follow that belief.... you have to believe in him first.
2. There was no temptation away from the path of good bc "John" was never on it. He lied to himself so that would mean in his heart he was always greedy and eventually that lead to crime.

He is still the same greedy man who lusts for money no matter who he's trying to cnovince. He probably became a man of God trying to convince himself and others that he's changed. He want's the appearence of a man of God, but still lusts for money. Maybe he (appearence-wise) changed into a man of God because he didn't want to be suspected of the many crimes he could've done. So that people don't suspect him of doing such things. Or maybe something in his brain may have clicked that being greedy was wrong and looked towards the path of God to replace his greed for money. But, alas, the money looked oh so tempting towards him that he just had to get it. It's true that many people can change their ways, but there's always that tempting little voice in the back of their heads that tell them to go back to their old habits. There are those who are strong that resist the temptation, but, obviously, the man was one of the weak who give in to the temptation of old ways, or in his case, money. There are those who want to change and other's who try to convince themselves that they want to only to go back to old habits. He KNOWS that what he's doing is wrong and COULD'VE stayed on the path of God, but WANTED to be greedy. So basically he CHOSE to do all this and WILLINGLY gave in to the temptation.

Happiness is being close to God. Maybe he really has changed. If your wanting him to leave the God behind and go back to being greedy, then you are evil and hateful.
I don't know if you have ever been close to God, but it's a feeling like no other. A relationship w/ God gets people through sorrow and helps lead them to the happy times.

He couldn't get the attention he wants with the help of money.
So he decided he should make a different image of himself.
At first he got the attention he wanted but after some time he missed his old life. He realized that his old greedy life was more suitable for him.He just can't seem to soothe himself with Jesus or wisdoms.
He thinks that wisdoms may change in time. And these days being rich is wise.
Or he can continue lying himself with ''God wants me to do this'' kind of thoughts.
