I wear patchouli oil and LOVE it! I mix mine with a little vanilla oil. I swear, men FOLLOW me around at the mall and women are always asking me what I am wearing. Try mixing it with vanilla and see if you get the same result. Also, everyone's chemistry is different..might not smell the same on you as it does in the bottle or on someone else.

Patchouli is associated with "hippies", and a very extremest mentality, which a lot of people find really hard to take. It's not really the smell, but what it makes people think of. Personally, I find it hard to call to mind what patchouli smells like, so I don't think I would make that immediate association, but people of a certain generation definitely would. Hope that helps!

It reminds me of my pot smoking days and i get all scared and think the cops are watching me. lol.
Seriously, there is this lady at our local paper who stinks up the whole bank with it when she comes in to do the deposit. One day when me and my co-worker were coming in from break we could smell it and before she noticed the lady was in front of us my co-worker said is that patchouli hippie from the 60's here again. i had to do everything i could to keep a straight face while she passed by us glaring.

I am not a huge fan because there was this lady at the grocery store who bathed in it. HOWEVER, there is an awesome patchoulli based smell at Bath and Body. It's called Jasmine Vanilla and you can definitely smell the Patchoulli in it but can also get the vanilla and jasmine. It smells great on girls or guys. But yeah...definitely makes me think of college and hippies.

I like the smell of it too, but not if someone's wearing so much that you can smell them coming a block away.
My friend Judy says that patchouli "smells like a rubber snake."

I, too, love the smell, but I think it associated with the hippie generation a lot...the notion of unkempt and smelly people.

I like it, but I have noticed some people will wear it too heavy. Maybe that gives it a bad name. Or it could be associated with bad memories...? Who knows.

I don't - I love the smell too. Guess it reminds older people of hippies or something :)
