Why is it that everyone says that a teenage girl needs to see a gyn because i don't the point i'm 16 and think i am perfectly finei mean i dislike my pediatrician looking there. I mean if you are a virgin i don't see a reason why. I'm still a virgin and i havent seen one yet. my main problem is showing something to stranger that i have always kept private. My mom has been trying to get me to go but i refuse i'm not to good with pain . can anybody tell me what the purpose is.

It is not necessary for a girl your age to go to a Gynecologist unless you are sexually active or unless you are having some health issues that are related to your breasts and/or sexual organs. Also, if you have a strong family history of ovarian, breast, cervical or uterine cancer, it would be wise to go. Those are the only reasons that a girl your age should go. If none of that pertains to you, I would call a local Gynecologist and ask that same questioin and then tell your mother what they said. I am sure they will say the same thing and then that may put your mother at ease.

It has less to do with being a virgin than you think. It is important to see an ob/gyn to make sure you don't have abnormal cells or growths - like the kind that turn cancerous.

You THINK you are perfectly fine. Seeing a gyno once a year lets you know your status. I mean, I understand that you are a virgin but things (like HPV or molluscum contagiosum) can be contracted with skin to skin or genital to genital contact. You'd hate to find out these things are wrong with you when your 20 & things could've been done about it sooner. [sexually active or not] They aren't scary. They are very calm and reassuring. They inform you of their every move while examining you. It's for your health!

The reason for the visit is to make sure everything is maturing properly and to make surethere are no types of disease(cancer) not the stds,youmay be thinking of. i was scared the first time but it doesnt hurt and if it gives you peace off mind to let you know your well,go for it.

for your own protection alot of things don't have sypmtoms until it is too late- go see the gyn there is nothing to worry about

I have never went, but it doesnt mean that you shouldnt go.
