I believe it is socially engrained in males nearly from birth. I have seen many examples such as some of the older TV shows that innocently say things like "come on now are you gonna cry like a girl?" Even some earlier cartoon super heroes men and women. I have seen male super heroes ask female super heroes "are you okay" after a battle of cartoon bad guys. I recently saw a show, can’t remember which one, where a lady was dating a guy and the guy cried at a movie or something that was a big deal and one would expect a tear or two. Then the couple was walking down a crowded sidewalk. The man stepped in dog dirt. He began to complain then totally lost it and cried like a baby because of his shoes and what not. The lady made non verbal gestures suggesting his actions where not manly. It was funny but indicated that it was not good to express his feelings. This has been in commercials where the guy says this is my little lady; I think I'll keep her. It was some sort of medical or vitamin commercial. ONE of my personal experiences was as a youth football official. I was taking my turn behind the home team bench when a dad coach was yelling at his son. Stop your crying. You wanna cry like a girl? Next week you'll be wearing a cheerleader’s skirt. There was more yelling that followed. Football is tough! But what did that dad portray to his son and the other 8, 9 year olds and the parents that overheard this? Among other issues the young child was told that showing his feelings was girlish or unacceptable behavior for a boy. So we as a society over time develop these trends. I used to shy away from any subject relating to feelings. But I know I do it so I try to reverse that in an acceptable way. I talk to my kids about dating, feelings, drugs and I ALWAYS SAY YOU CAN LEARN SOMETHING FROM EVERYONE - You can learn what to do and WHAT NOT TO DO in some cases. Thanks for your question.

It is part od society that men were always looked "down" on for being sensitive or dicussing their emotions - society viewed the ones that did as weak. Even when it comes to the diagnosis of mental illness - ie) depression, etc - the rates are higher for women then they are for men but it isn't because that men don't suffer from them necessarily - it is because less men report feeling these things. This is also why men have higher suicide rates than women do. It's not right but it was the way it always was. I like it on here cause all of the men seems to discuss their feelings and I think that is nice - I really respect a man that is in touch with himself enough to talk about them appopriately. Many men have anger outbursts or use chemical substances to dull the pain inside for all the same reasons and more do than women for that reason - people frown at it - but I think less and less so maybe we are moving in the right direction.

Because by socities standards it's unmanly for guys to talk about feelings and that they must keep everything inside. If a man talks about his feelings people see him has being weak,a pushover a pansy if you will. And it to him thinking he's less then a man..and unworthy of certain things that life that life expects of men and not women.

Because men are stereotypically nothing more than breadwinners, and babymakers. Women are so wrapped up in THEIR lives, THEIR problems... Men have just evolved into beings that keep things within themselves. I thought it would be cool to eavesdrop after a big fight with my bf.... so I called the house phone from my cell and left the cell in the room with him and his friend. I listened for 10 minutes.....Silence.......Cough.....Video game noise...... "F*cking women, I just don't get them".....silence.......
So...men don't even feel comfy spilling all to even another man!

I never have a problem talking about my feelings. The only problem is that women want those guys who have a problem talking about thier feelings, beacuse I guess those guys seem more manly. After all, don't most men have a problem talking about thier feelings? It could drive you flippin' nuts!

Because we're actually aliens from the planet Florbizicon and we have no emotions there, so we don't understand them and we try not to discuss them, or we would reveal our origin.
