In tropical oceans, areas of the sea where the sea floor is only a certain depth (like around coral reefs, for example) and the water is very clean, you will usually see a sort of light bluish, turquoise color to the water, which looks a lot like the color on the bottom of a pool. It's just a natural thing from the refraction of light and such.

I've seen water just like that at a nearly-abandoned Naval base, where they were DEFINITELY not interested in putting any kind of chemicals in the water for tourists.

Reefs and such generally have a pretty abrupt drop-off, where the water suddenly changes back to the deep blue of the ocean.

If it is a sandy bottom it will appear lighter in color. The deeper the water, if there is sea grass on the floor or coral it will appear darker.
