So today I was in the car, and my father was driving, and I was just looking around for a while, and then later looked at the front window of the car, and the sun was there and bright, and I looked at it accidentally right there, and right when I saw it, I turned away because I know you are not supposed to look at the sun. I'm worrying now. Has this happened to anyone before and since this happened will anything happen to my eyes? Thanks, and answers for both questions would be good and 10 pts will be yours.

Looking at any type of light burns your retina, but that is not a bad thing considering it is how we see. It is the burning of the retina that causes our brain to interpret an image. The amount of light and intensity of the light from the Sun is very high so burns the retina too much. You are going to be fine. I've stared at the Sun when I was little all the time. If it makes you feel better, by looking at the Sun through the window of the car you are better off. The real harm comes from looking at the Sun during a solar eclipse because the pupil does not close and allows all radiation in.

About the sun:
It's our closest star and is what keeps us warm and helps to determine our weather. It emits high levels of radiation. That can cause blindness or problems with the eyes.
This has happened to me several times. Unless you stared at it for a longer period of time, like a minute or so, don't worry. It's not going to effect your eyes. If you feel like there is something wrong with them now or you are seeing funny, go to you optometrist and have them take a look. I'm sure you'll be fine. Good Luck!

you'll be okay if you look at it sometimes for a little amount of time, but if you stare at it directly for a very long amount of time you will end up hurting your eyes. Galileo became blind from staring at the sun with UNPROTECTED eyes. on telescopes they have covers that you can use to protect your eyes when watching the sun, and also there are sunglasses which help, but still you shouldnt stare at the sun for a very long time.

It has happened to everyone at one time or another, and just a glance won't do any damage. It can make your eyes hurt and cause you to see spots for a few minutes, but you would have to stare at the sun to d any damage.

you are not goint to have any damage to your eyes---trust me on this one. the only way you wil get damage is if you look at it for long periods of time, or if u are constantly looking back at it. And another thing, never EVER look at the sun through a teloscope; it will ruin the teloscope and your eyes! but if you really really really want to lok at the sun, there is a special type of sunglasses (but they are not very fashionable--let me warn you) that will let you look at the sun without ANY damage to your eyes!!!! how cool is that??? i have yet to get any, but i have a friend who has some and they ACTUALLY WORK!!!!!

i think you have to actually stare at the sun for a period of time,
i think the eyes can handle brief exposure to extreme light otherwise we would all be blind eveytime an ambulance or cop car speed past with lights blaring.

each and every person likes the solar, aside from those uncommon people who've hypersensitive reactions to the UV rays of the solar. on occasion it is sooooo extreme, that persons can die is a solar ray touches their dermis. :(
