I just bought these amazing cowboy boots, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to wear socks that show or don't show. And if they are supposed to show, what kind of sock should that be?

They make a nice thick sock called boot socks. I recommend those. I would get some that go up my leg the length of the boot. As to color, get something that matches what you're wearing and/ or matches the boots, in case the tops of the socks stick out a little above the top of the boot. Enjoy the awesome boots!

As to socks...they're not just socks! Your feet will get hot and sweaty. Socks absorb the sweat. Hot sweaty feet ruin "shoes" faster and are bad for your feet, as well. I knew several real cowboys in college (went to college in a small ranching town), and they did not scoff at taking care of one's self at all. Take care of your feet, and they'll take care of you. Wear socks for comfort in boots, as well as for the health of your feet and the boots.

i have some cowboy boots and i wear socks but that is only because they are really old and i got them at a yard sale for 3 bucks (bargain, i know!). anyways, if there brand new, i would wear them with socks for the first couple of days that you wear them(they should be high socks, and they don't have to show). Gradually you can get lower socks, ankle socks, and then gradually, no socks at all. And since they make ur feet warm, they'll be PERFECT for fall! (i'm thinking of wearing mine this november too)
HOPE I HELPED!
ENJOY UR NEW SHOES!!!

If the boots fit properly, you should actually wear 'boot socks' with your boots. Boot Socks are a bit thicker in the toe and heel, since well fitting boots leave room around your toes, and allow the heel to slip about 1/2". These socks are available in 'over the calf' or 'calf' height in case the boots rub your leg. Personally, I've been wearing boots all my life so I don't notice any rubbing. But I must say that you are more comfortable in ankle socks, then wear them. Who's going to notice anyway, so wear what makes you happy.

Now, I am not a fashion diva at all, but I wear cowboy boots quite a bit (my husband and I raise beef cattle and quarter horses) and I can not stand having the inside of the boots rubbing on my calves so I always wear tall socks with them. But then again, I always wear them with jeans, too. I suggest trying to wear them around the house with different kinds of socks to see what you are comfortable with. Another option with jeans is to wear your jeans on the inside of your boots. My granddaughter wears her boots like this when she is riding and looks cute as a bug. I'd say do whatever you like or what feels good to you.

If they're tall cowboy boots (traditional) don't let your socks show, that's weird. With my boots I wear ankle socks, but now below-the-ankle, because then they slowly inch their way down, bunch up, and it's really uncomfortable. But if you wear ankle or regular-length socks, that's fine. Just whatever you like.

If youre wearing a miniskirt, then wear long socks that show over the boots. If youre wearing jeans, just go with your regular socks.

No one will ever see your socks, so who cares what they look like? Well, maybe if you take your boots off in some lady's home, you wouldn't want them to stink too much or be full of holes, so maybe just a good pair of white cotton socks would be fine.
