Not likely. Many other major countries, like the US and UK, have strong diplomatic relationships with & military interests in Taiwan. I believe they would would be strongly encouraged to remain independent, and if China became a democracy, it would find it necessary to respect that independance.

Taiwan was a neglected province of China before being invaded by the Kuomintang and Chang Kia-shek at the end of their civil war with the Communists. Taiwan is actually a group of islands and what we think of as Taiwan is actually the island of Formosa. The name Taiwan comes from an early Republic of Taiwan of the 1860's. Since the coming of the Kuomintang the native born Taiwanese have been treated as second class citizens. The last decades have seen a slow change and the rise to prominence of native born Taiwanese in the political stage. The country of Taiwan has been developing almost out of sight but it is there. While relations between Taiwan and China may improve there will be no reunion, unless by force. It is not possible because they have become different countries and peoples with different political, economic and cultural aims.

It will return to China for reasons of survival and well bein. As for Democracy and the remaining political bulshit I know you are aware that the US is far from democracy on the core but is well decorated from the outside to portray democracy. Is this the democracy you call upon or is there a democracy of a certain style and type to every country and reason In the case of China it does not apply and they are more democratic than US and the whole of Europe but does not have the media to paint them as good as in those countries, so no answer under this condition.

sure. When the China grows rich enough peoples in taiwan will be thirsty for re-union.
Youths and grassroot in taiwan who have never been the mainland have been brain-washed by politicians. They think the mainland envy their achievement and will ruin their lives. The enemies lie in their mind only. What a dull.

There is something to remember first : China will not give up the desire to sovereignty of Taiwan.
The time and form the both sides (or three parties including U.S) will choose to make the problem solved denpends on the actions of politicans and the people.
