I have several girlfirends that call me often. Usually with nothing much to say. When we get together, I enjoy their company and look foward to spending quality time with them but how often is too often when the phone conversations seem to contain a lot of dead air?

It's too often when you see that they are calling you and you immediately roll your eyes or hesitate.

That happens between friends. Just say that you need to go if you are not able to carry a meaningful conversation.

if they call you with absolutely nothing to talk about, then they're pretty much hoping that you have something to say. when they realize that you don't, they should know that enough is enough!!
