There are legal requirements for each store to provide a certain number of handicapped parking spaces for their customers, based on the size of the store and the projected volume of business which they will be doing. These are based on Federal and city and state laws. The stores will generally offer the highest number required, as they know that there are going to be a certain number of jerks who park there who are not handicapped and should be walking from a regular parking space. Be very glad that you do not have to use one of these spaces, and can walk on your own two feet from a regular space. The decisions about the spaces are actually made before the store is even opened or built. Have a good night!

I've read in the paper before that there is a percentage of handicap spaces to the overall number of parking spaces available in that particular lot. What the percentage is I do not know...sorry!

How much do you like it walking all the way across the parking lot to get into a store? Those who can't walk or not at least very well, - or very far, -- don't like it very much either!
