Originally holding a gun sideways was invented by a LA police officer to make kids think it was the cool way to shoot a gun .. The officer knew that it was a horrid way to shoot a gun because you have no aim... It worked to the officer's advantage because gangs would hold their gun sideways and not kill or injure as many officers or innocent people...

it fairly is not basically "black human beings", it fairly is component to the "gang-banger" subculture, not basically from a seen attitude through fact it "seems cool" & hollywood does it that way, yet an basic loss of common firearms expertise- what number "gang-bangers" have you ever considered practising suited technique on the firing selection? the only time i've got ever considered something reminiscent of this utilized with the help of severe shooters became with the help of a few police officer's on a similar time as utilising ballistic shields. In those situations the officers had to attain around the fringe of the preserve and carry he firearm in-front of a small window. the only different concern i might desire to be certain this getting used is the case of a shooter having to hold the firearm around an obstruction it rather is opposite their dominant hand forcing them to attain for the time of their physique (i.e. precise surpassed around a left area corner). although, even in the two between the eventualities above the firearm is as a rule basically at a 60º attitude, not completely horizontal. - David

Yeah, I've done it before too, just to be a jackass; you can't hit anything and a case hit me right in the forhead. As far as "why" I'm guessing the type of people that shoot like that aren't that good anyway, so I guess why not.

Apparently its cool to hold a gun like an idiot. I bet they're terrible shots.
If they actually held the gun properly and aimed a bit they would likely kill who they intend to. Instead of all thes guys walking around with holes in their arms and legs.
If they were better shooters.... natural selection would be a faster process.

Because Tony Montana (Al Pacino) did it in Scarface. As far as why it's on tv and in the movies is for the style but since, as you pointed out, does not have much substance.

Black police don't do that, it's because they never were taught how to properly use a weapon. When the casing hits them in the eye & blinds them, they may try the right way.
