IQ is just a measure of how your brain works. Unfortunately most public schools are set up to cater to students with around 100 IQ (the average). Most gifted students have IQ's above 130, which is why they need "special" classes...the same reason that students who have IQ's below 80 need special classes. Regular school isn't designed for these students, and both groups need special accomodations...

Yes and no. IQ is a tricky thing. Lots of people might have a high IQ, or level of intelligence, but lack motivation or skills to do something with it. Also, IQ tests are not fail-safe. Many of them have a cultural or linguistic bias, so some people may score lower than what their true intelligence is.
That aside, though, most people with a higher-than-average IQ (lets say 110 or above) do tend to either seek higher formal education, or perhaps even strike out on their own to start a new company or act on a new idea. Many very creative people have high IQs, but are not always 'cut out' for school.
A study was done some years ago that showed in Canada/US, most people who graduated university (not started, mind you, but actually finished) had an IQ of 110 or higher. People who finished a Master's or PhD had 115-120 or higher.
