Can I send a text message to a Cell Phone via Pc ? Much faster than using my own cell phone to send one that way I would think. Can it be done ?

Yes. If you know the service provider of the person you are sending to, you can go to that website (for example: cingular.com) and click send a free SMS.
Or, you can go on yahoo in the instant message form type in +(and the persons number with area code) and send a text message. Also can be done the same way with AOL.

Some carriers offer text message from their website. Have a look if your carrier does.
Also, I don't know whether you have this in the US but there are companies in Australia who offer free text messaging just for reading advertising which you can then send from their website.

Well, Im not really sure about all of the service providers, but I have T-Mobile and after logging in with my phone number, I can send messages from the website. Maybe something you could look into with your service provider. AIM also allows you send messages to mobile numbers.

Yes - for instance Verizon has vtext.com to send text messages from the web to a mobile phone. Each provider should have something similar - just go to their web-site
