When you say "biopsy," I assume you mean it was performed during laparoscopic surgery? Surgery is the only way to diagnose Endo.

Progesterone is a hormone involved in the female menstrual cycle, pregnancy and embryogenesis. It belongs to a class of hormones called progestagens, and is the major naturally occurring human progestagen. Progestins, on the other hand, are *synthetically produced* progestagens. They do not occur naturally, but rather, are made. Substances like oral contraceptives contain synthetic progestins, for example.

'Progestin effect' is the role the manufactured progesterone has on the body. For instance, progestins are used to control anovulatory (irregular) bleeding, to prepare the uterine lining in infertility therapy, to support early pregnancy and recurrent pregnancy loss due to inadequate progesterone production.

In Endometriosis, progestin therapy is offered to patients to attempt to temporarily quell some of the symptoms. It is not curative (there is no cure for Endo), but may be helpful in some women and girls. You can read about the specifics of progestins and Endo here:

Progesterone is a hormone. It has somewhat different action to estrogen. It affects the cells between endometrial glands and prepare them to accomodate to receive a fertilized egg. However sometimes delicate balance between estrogent and progestrone is affected. Usually it is excessive estrogen which is then treated by drugs containing progesterone. In biopsy progesterone produce a charcterstic change i.e. swelling of the in between cells as mentioned above, which is called progestin or progesterone effect.
