I have this friend that I told some things to and now I find out that he has been telling these things to the one person he shouldn't have been. He's probably done this many times but I'm just now figuring it out. He doesn't know that I know. Should I confront him? Should I not talk to him ever again or just act like I don't know he told? How do you know when you can trust someone? I feel like I should probably live by the saying "trust no one".

First thing to do is to change your standards for who becomes your friend. I'd be inclined to tell him how much his behavior hurts. Trust is earned, never just given. You trust with little things and verify that it is warranted. It's not easy, that's for darn sure. AND, one finds few friends of high caliber so you treasure the ones you find.

Well, don't trust *that* person again, but living by the rule "trust no one" can lead to a lonely life. Give people the chance to earn your trust. Everyone is different. If you are a trustworthy person, isn't there a chance that there are more people like you in the world?

In regard to your friend, I'd just watch what I say around him from now on. If you want to discontinue being friends, you have the right to do that, and I would just be honest if he asks you why.

Betrayed trust is hard to deal with, I know. Not everyone will do that to you, though.

trust can only be gained over time. try testing out the person first, by telling them minor things in confidence, and work your way up. as for your 2-faced friend, just stay away from him. don't say anything about the betrayal, just be too "busy" to spend time with him anymore.

People confuse aquatints for friends. I think you should confront this person. Don't act mad... Tell him that he has disappointed you. That you thought he was a Friend. Turn and walk away. Don't waste your time with him. He is not worth it!
