When you signed up for your internet they told you what your download speed was (Like 2 meg, 4 meg, or 8 meg). When you use P2P programs and you are downloading with them then you are using part of that speed. Depending on how many files and what speed they are all downloading at then your internet connection will seem to slow down. Try stopping some of the P2P downloads and see if you speed up...

Spy-ware isn't installed on P2P applications, it's actually in the content that you download. I happen to be a user of P2P, and most require you to download and allow upload files from your PC on a point system. You actually get more points for uploads than downloads and your MAC address is recorded / monitored for content.
The P2P application will be also updating a server of the files that you are sharing generating other traffic.
If is was spy-ware, your anti-virus would have notified you of files being written to other folders than what your sharing..... IE security....
Spybot and Adaware doesn't remove all the SPYWARE from your computer.... The best defence is making your other Drives and files read only.... (IF you don't know how to do that, your clearly in over your head and you shouldn't be using P2P)

When you're not using P2P, remove it from your system tray.
BTW, my only reliable P2Ps are: Kazaa Lite, Shareaza / Emule. And when I'm searching, I remove them immediately.
If you think your P2P is slowing you down, then uninstall it from your system!

It slows down your internet because, every program you use, requires ram, and, if you don't have enough, it can slow ya down till ya see the blue screen of death.. and then, you'll have to reboot. and that's a pain in the ****..
