A computer program is a series of commands which a computer uses to perform a given task or set of tasks. Programs include games, web browsers, operating systems, music players, basically anything that you can interact with on a computer.

You make a program by learning a programming language. You use this language (such as C, FORTRAN, PASCAL, even scripting languages like PERL, Python, and Java) to describe the tasks you want a computer to perform, and how you want them done. This program is then sent to a special program to make what you write readable by the computer (compiling). The end result is a finished program.
