My 10 year old Dirt Devil finally died on me and I am shopping around for a new vacuum cleaner. Does anyone know a good, high quality, strong suction vacuum cleaner out there? I have been thinking about Dyson Animal, since I have 2 dogs in the house.
Does anyone know if this is a good kind to buy? Or would you recommend something else? Also, if you have a Dyson, how is it working out for you? Is it as great as they say it is?
Any advice is appreciated! thank you. dana

Definitely get the Dyson. We've got a Dyson (yellow) and it works wonderfully! We've got a Labby who sheds enough in a week to put together a whole new puppy and the Dyson stands up to the challenge. We also live in a semi-sandy area and the Dyson keeps the rugs from being gritty. By design the Dyson is modular and you can take it apart where clogs generally occur that decrease suction. If it doesn't clean properly you haven't cleaned it properly. It is also great for people with allergies because it doesn't kick up dust and dirt and put it back into the air.

If you're serious about cleaning, pick up your Dyson today! (Thus ends bound's Dyson infomercial!)

The fact that you had a 10 year old dirt devil amazes me. That's usually what I buy, and if I can keep one going for 2 years, that's great to me. But they are inexpensive and therefore "disposable".
I was considering getting one of those Dyson's next time - because of the commercial.
After reading the answers to your question, I won't. Guess I'll stick to the tried-and-true dirt devil.

We've had a Dyson Animal since May, 2003 and it is the best! We have 5 indoor cats and it does a fantastic job of removing the hair they leave around the house, regardless of the floor surface. We've experienced no loss of suction power since then. Well worth the price.

I've had mine for over a year now & it still (pardon the pun) sucks paint off the walls. It does need to have the dog hair, etc., cut off the beater bar on occasion and the filter needs to be washed 2x a year. Other than that, it's been maintenance free & I still love it. The Animal is the best vacuum I've ever owned - including Dust Devils, Eurekas, Hoovers, etc.

This is what I was told by an independant vacuum repair shop----they are very good however, the parts are made of plastic--and when you are bashing into walls, furniture, etc. eventually that plastic will crack and break. And they are made in CANADA and the parts are ONLY AVAILABLE from Canada. Which is fine if you live IN Canada, but anywhere else, you are stuck waiting and waiting and waiting.

Get it?
I bought a Kenmore canister with hepa from Sears, it was a Consumer Reports best buy 4 years ago, it's still going and my husband uses it for a shop vac in the garage sometimes!

I love my Dyson, but the local vacuum repair guy won't work on them because he claims they cost more to fix than they are worth. I haven't had any problems with mine, and I've had it two years. I've got 3 dogs and two cats, as well as a very dusty cockatoo, and you can't beat these machines for suction power.

I have Panasonic and it's always reliable - I would buy another one.
I also heard the Electrolux and Miele's are excellent.

I broke many a Hoover - would not buy one of those.
I would never buy a Dyson after what I've heard from other people.

Save yourself some money and visit your local Walmart and buy a Hoover and forget about this "no loss of SUCKtion" better mousetrap! It is over-marketed and over-priced. I recently tried out a Dyson at Sears and was not impressed.

I clean homes for a living and a few of my customers want us to use there dyson sweeper because of animal hair it seems to work very well in picking up hair but they seem to be made cheap for the money you pay for them.We also noticed that they plugged up very easily.I myself dont think I would pay that much money for one just dont seem like they would last very long .Best sweeper we ran across with are company was the oreck picks up great real light weight awsome vac..
