All I want from this job is a job and nothing more. All I want from my boss is a boss, a good boss, and not a friend or buddy. She insists on being friends and tells me all the time that she and I are friends outside of work, but that she's the boss from 9 to 5. What should I do with her? I don't want to be her friend.

Go out with her once in a while. Not every night. Doesn't even have to be a weekly thing. Don't go out with her more than that though. Maybe something like once every other week. Mark your territory and say you are busy or what ever. Let her know you can't socialize every night, that you have things to do out side of work. Anyway, this will help build a working relationship. Maybe other employees can come too?

That's a tough one. You don't want to tell her flat-out that you don't want to be her friend because she might take it the wrong way. If I were you, I would suggest to her that we plan some activites for ALL of the co-workers outside of work hours, not just you and the boss. That way she gets her social fix but hopefully she gets used to talking to all those other folks, too. If she doesn't "get it" then you should tell her that it makes you uncomfortable to be buddy-buddy with the boss because at your last job (or last 5 jobs!) hanging out with the boss was discouraged.

Don't tell her that you don't want to be her friend, don't get on her bad side, and morally, that's mean to say to someone. Be nice, but if it gets bad. Then just try to ignore her. Just let her say that you're friends. But don't take it too far. That's a plus as well if she have some sort of relationship with you, friend wise, so she'll be nicer and easier to you, and hell, you might get a raise.

just tell her she is a fine boss but that you don't socialize with anyone you work with. you feel it makes for a more professionally ran organization.

It's good that she likes you. Maybe she's lonely. Tell her you have a boyfriend who takes up all of your free time.
